Is counseling for me?
Unconditional empathy and understanding are rare in this world, and yet we all need both. Yes, I am a professional holder of emotional space. But I couldn’t embody empathy and compassion without first having profoundly extended both to myself. I take excellent care of myself so that I can hold space for you while you learn to do the same.
I don’t care what you’ve done or what you’ve been through. You deserve a space in which to be seen and accepted exactly as you are. Lasting healing and satisfaction come from learning how to accept yourself. I’d love to help bridge the gap between where you currently are and full self-acceptance. Carl Rogers said the curious paradox is that when I accept myself exactly as I am, then I can change.
– J. Marshall Lamm, CMHC
Radical Empathy
We all carry emotional, mental, and psychological wounds, evidence that we are not whole or healed on the inside. Empathy restores the realization of wholeness, and radical empathy finally brings the empathy from the self for the self. I have gone through family counseling many times in my life. I can say I know counseling will help you in any situation. I also can say there isn’t a single soul I would recommend more than Marshall Lamm. My mother’s favorite saying is “you don’t always remember what they said, but you’ll remember how they made you feel”. Marshall makes you feel like the most important person in the universe each interaction you have with him. I would recommend him to anyone! He was and still is an inspiration in my life.”
In his authentic, humorous, and tremendously empathetic way, Marshall taught me new ways to think about my problems – both in my personal life and with my family. He immediately gave me concrete things to practice, and the results were almost instantaneous.
I remain astonished at Marshall’s wisdom. I felt like I left every session with a new epiphany that deepened my faith and my sense of self-worth and hope. As I told Marshall, I am convinced that the work he is doing is his calling in life.”
